I first saw some of Nathan Robinson's art in Dr. Stuart N. Robinson's office (his nephew). I was immediately struck by how very nice the landscapes were. You don't often see such fine art in a therapeutic setting -- it certainly helps me stay calm to see such "comfort art"...

Nathan Robinson (20th Century) was active/lived in Arizona. He's best known for his portrait, landscape, and figure painting.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Robinson had his first art training at William and Mary College Extension Division. Later he attended the National Academy of Design in New York and studied privately with Dimitri Romanovsky, noted portrait painter. After three years in New York, he returned to Richmond and ran an art school for eleven years. Then, for the health of his son, he moved the family to Arizona where he was associated with the Desert House in Tucson.

  2. Hi Donald, Thanks for posting this collection of Nathan Robinson works. I believe I have a painting of his and am trying to track down more information on him but don't seem to be coming up with much! If you could pass along any info or resources that you have come across I would really appreciate it.

  3. I shared an art studio-gallery at Plaza Antigua in Tucson in 1989-90 with Nathan Robinson who became a good friend. I had the back studio which was quite large and spacious. Memories of these years will live with me during several commissions I was producing these years. With memory I also delivered one of his very unusual tell-all pieces to a show in Phoenix.
We had many enlightening conversations regarding art and philosophy. He had 100's of works at his gallery that he produced...would love to see more of his desert landscapes for memory.

  4. I took oil painting lessons from Mr. Robinson starting in the 1950s, when I was nine years old. He got me started on what has been a lifelong love of art and painting in oils. Very fond memories. I'd love to have one of his paintings. If anyone knows of one for sale, please email me at bettydrake@aol.com. Thank you!

  6. My dad is one of two surviving brothers (99 years old). He lives with me in Williamsburg, Virginia. We have a number of his works, and they are cherished. My brother and I are lofted handed because of Uncle Nathan!

  7. I think I just found a oil on canvas from him. It has his signature. I have tried to find out if it's a real painting or not .
