Pilot
Sigurd Wein was a good family friend. He flew Dad around remote
Alaska during his
USGS years in the fifties, and used to drop by to visit at our house in the sixties and seventies. His older brother,
Noel, was a famous pioneer bush pilot and was the real-life inspiration for my own
"Al Kirby, Bush Pilot" comic strip. How cool that there is a "
double-family" connection to this
William D. Berry fantasy mural located inside the children's area of the
Noel Wein Library in
Fairbanks, Alaska.
